Candida by George Bernard ShawThis isnt necessarily a negative thing theyre all well conform to to separately other, and create a sort of synergy that drives the play. Buttheyre each quite different in their own respect. The main ones,Candida, Eugene and James ar all written to be strong characters, andthe way they were portrayed in the production our class saw lived upto this classification. However, this doesnt apply to everything.Some of the characters were stretched to let the play appeal to anewer generation in a newer mean solar day and age, at the expense of the dignityof at least one of the characters. Eugene.Eugene is a disowned poet who falls in love with Candida, the wife ofReverend James. Hes a brilliant artist and spews nothing but truismsfrom beginning to end. However, the words dont really tick off theperformance. Eugene uses a level of language that connotes adignified, noble upbringing, which is supported in spite of appearance the context ofthe story.
